RACING
CHAMPIONSHIP
As
you know, our winning record on the monohulls
have been nothing but amazing. We take great pride
in our designs, construction, and customer service.
Many
of our products are very unique and only offered
by Sabre Sails. Our championship sails are constructed
out of Contender Sailcloth (www.contendersailcloth.com),
the finest laminates you can buy. The construction
is on the leading edge of sailmaking. These sails
are constructed to give the customer the best
performance and longevity. Corner patches are
constructed with solid Aramids strain relief strips
and covers with our distinguished lily pad reinforcing
cover patch. In the first year, boats with Super
K2™ sails won 5 national championships-that is
every boat with Sabre Sails Super K2™ sails won
the championship. This is a win/win combination
for your boat.
Our
Championship radial sails are recommended for
the most dedicated racer. Cloth selection is made
only after a Stress & Strain analysis has been
performed to assure longevity and durability.
Sabre Sails understand that the purchase of a
Championship radial sail is an investment that
needs to last as well as perform. Your sail is
designed using Sabre Sails Non-Linear Twist Distribution
Program that allows the designer to "fit" the
sail around your boat's rig. This means faster
acceleration, higher pointing and flatter exit
angles for greater wind range. Each sail undergoes
a Polar Optimization analysis to assure that the
sail is aligned with boat's hull to obtain the
maximum up wind performance.
All
our Professional Championship sails come with
Strain reduction patches to reduce the overall
size and weight of the head, clew and tack patches.
These patches are computer generated from our
Stress & Strain Analysis program.
CHAMPIONSHIP
SAILCLOTH
Our
Championship Sails are offered in 3 types of materials
(Super K3™, AK family of Contenders premium aramids,
and Carbon). The Championship spinnakers are offered
using Contenders' Dynalite, Stabilkote, and Maxikote
spinnaker cloths.

Super K2™/Super K3™
-
Four
years ago Sabre Sails introduced a new product
called Super K1. Super K1 used an off the
shelf balanced sailcloth to demonstrate a
revolutionary new manufacturing process. The
response for this product was so overwhelming
we decided to redesign the cloth for the loads
on the J-30 and for a faster aerodynamic surface.
(see why Super
K3?)
In
January 2000, Super K2™ was delivered to Sabre
Sails. It is produced in 5 weights. Ultra
light, super light, light, medium, and heavy.
This range of weights gives us the capability
to produce the lightest, strongest sails in
the world; from light air screechers, blades
and mains for all boats to 50 footers. This
cloth has 16.5% more high modulus fibers in
the primary axis and 73% more high modulus
fibers in the secondary axis than the aramids
our competitors are using in their sails.
The customer is getting more denier (more
aramid) per dollar with this cloth.
In
November 2001 Super K3™ was introduced. It
has a new gray tinted laminate to increase
the UV resistance by 75% and has even more
modulus fibers than Super K2™.
A
new dimension in sail construction was developed
for the construction of the Super K3™
sails. A new glue was developed that is applied
to the broadseams at over 400° F. This welds
the seams together and has stopped seam creep.
In addition the seams are sewn to assure longevity.
We also developed a technique to remove the
glued seam if the sail need to be repaired.
In addition, stress relief tapes made of solid
aramids fibers are installed at all the stress
points and covered with a stress relief cover
patch. These tapes and patches are designed
to absorb the loads and provide longevity
to the sail.

Aramid
-
These
sails are constructed out of the finest radial
laminates money can buy. These laminates have
a new gray tint to increase the UV resistance
by 75%. Corner patches are constructed with
solid aramid strain relief tapes and covers
with our distinguished lily pad reinforcing
cover patch.

Carbon
-
Sabre
Sails is offering the latest in radial sailcloth,
the Graphx performance laminates. Since this
cloth is new to the industry, no one can predict
the longevity of these sails. If you want
the black color look, then these are the ones
you want. Corner patches are constructed with
solid carbon strain relief tapes and covers
with our distinguished lily pad reinforcing
cover patch. We have developed new insulating
techniques to isolate the carbon from the
hardware. But due to the inherent physical
and chemical properties of carbon, we can
not warranty the sail for galvanic corrosion
and longevity. We also had an extensive impact
flutter stretch test performed on the carbon
against our Championship aramid sailcloth
we use on our championship products. The results
of these tests are:
- Carbon
is on average 10% to 20% heavier than aramid
for similar high load stretch numbers.
- Carbon
has on average 3 to 4 times more stretch
at low load (10#) compared to aramid due
to crimp.
- Carbon
has on average 15% to 20% more stretch at
high load (200#) compared to aramid.
- Carbon
is on average 25% to 46% more expensive
than comparable aramid products.
- Dynalite
Spinnaker cloth
-
Dynalite
is stronger than any other .75 oz nylon with
bionic tear strength and is totally waterproof.
This cloth is so slippery that the sail does
not cling to itself during a gybe, which equates
to a faster set time and faster gybes. Sabre
Sails is the largest user of Dynalite spinnaker
cloth in the United States. Dynalite is the
only silicone coated spinnaker cloth that
does not wash off after a couple of sets/take
downs. Several other sailmakers have misrepresented
this amazing product by offering an inferior
product. These sails come with ball bearing
rings pressed into the head and tack to assist
that our gybes are the fastest on the race
course. Panel layouts are all rocked radials
and designs for the maximum performance and
strength.
- Stabilkote
Spinnaker cloth
-
Stabilkote
is has been considered the leader in the .75
oz coated spinnaker cloth. It is closely woven
with durable polyurethane coating for zero
porosity. Panel layouts are all rocked radials
and designs for the maximum performance and
strength.
- Maxikote
Spinnaker cloth
-
Maxikote
is the only performance coated heavy air cloth
for highly loaded sails. It was the overwhelming
choice of the leading American Cup program.
It is closely woven with a durable polyurethane
coating for zero porosity. Panel layouts are
all rocked radials and designs for the maximum
performance and strength.
