Sabre Sails 2001
Sabre
Sails is beginning another year in their new production
facility. This facility incorporates over 7200 square
feet of production floor space for manufacturing sails,
canvas products and rigging. Sabre Sails has grown from
a small canvas and sail loft into the largest, most
modern, full-service loft in the Southeastern United
States. Using sailmaker's inputs from around the world,
the building incorporates the latest in energy savings
lighting, heating and cooling systems, along with the
latest and most modern sailmaking tools. The loft provides
the capability of having several large sails in production
at the same time. The new loft has been a significant
improvement to the community. It has given a new look
and hope to an unimproved depressed neighborhood, and
has been a major deterrence to crime in the neighborhood.
Sabre
Sails has grown from a small local sail loft servicing
sailors on the Ft Walton Beach area, to servicing sailmakers
and sailors world wide. Sabre Sails
attribute its growth to quality products, customer
service, and their innovative sail designs. Sabre Sails
is now designing winning sails for over 15 sailmakers
throughout the world. Sabre Sails designs have been on winning
boats throughout the country including most major racing
events. This includes 1st place finishes at: the Southern
Ocean Racing Conference (SORC), the Chicago NOOD, the
California PHRF Championship (including boat of the
year) twice, the San Diego Cup, the MORC nationals,
several major ocean races including Isla Mujeres Mexico
races and in the highly competitive trimarians and catamarans
classes and one design classes.
Our designs has been recognized by other sail designers, sailmakers,
and naval architects, as well as sailors who use his
products, as a leader in sail design. His innovated
ideas such as Polar Optimized Sails™, and Stress-Strain
Analysis Programs™ have enabled him to design sails
that are faster, lighter, stronger and last longer.
The Polar Optimized Sails™ software, developed and trade-marked
by Sabre Sails allows the sail designer to treat the
sail as a subsystem of the boat. The designers look
at the hull performance, the dagger boats and foils'
drag/lift coefficients, and other velocity prediction
information to optimize the sail to the boat.
The
Stress-Strain Analysis Program™, a finite element analysis
software program, gives the sail designers the capability
to assure that the correct cloth, weight, type and panel
layouts are used in the construction of each sail. The
major benefits of this technology, realized by both
cruising and racing sailors, are lighter weight sails
and with increased longevity. The Stress-Strain Analysis
Program ™ has enabled Sabre Sails to reduce the overall
size and weight of the head, clew, and tack patches.
Reinforcing only the required areas and distributing
the loads into the sail, eliminates the extra weight
from reinforcing layers of sailcloth as in traditional
patches. Overall weight savings has been considerable.
These sails are holding their shape better in greater
wind ranges.
In
March of 1998, Sabre Sails developed a process to glue
Silicone coated nylon spinnaker cloth rather than sewing.
This cloth is nearly impossible to sew because it is
so slippery. The cloth is stronger than any other .75
oz nylon with bionic tear strength and is totally waterproof.
The glued seams are impossible to pull apart. This cloth
is so slippery that the sail does not cling to itself
during a jybe, which equates to a faster set time and
faster jybes.
Sabre Sails has expanded its services word-wide. Sabre
Sails team includes lofts and service centers as far
away as Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico, and Japan.
Nearer to home: Atlanta GA, Oklahoma City Ok, Mobile
Al, New Orleans La, Los Angles Ca, San Diego Ca, Lexington
SC, and in Florida: Pensacola, Sarasota, Ft. Meyers,
Orlando, and Port Charlotte.
